Michelle L. Riley, Founder:

2014 Notary of the Year Honoree:   "Notary of the Year Honorees epitomize the best traditions and highest level of professionalism of the Notary Public office" - The National Notary Association.  Michelle was recognized by the NNA (the nation's largest association for notaries) for starting Alabama's only networking group for notaries "Notaries for Alabama".  Concerned about the lack of information, training and continuing education for notaries, Michelle founded Notaries for Alabama - a networking group focused on addressing those needs.

The current owner of Alabama Notary and Process Server, Michelle has been a commissioned Notary Public since 2006. She graduated from the University of Alabama at Huntsville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Political Science.  Michelle is also a licensed insurance agent and private process server.

In 2013, Michelle, and the dedicated members of Notaries for Alabama, hosted a community service event on National Notary Public Day (November 7th). The group offered free notary services to the general public  and mentoring to area notaries.  In 2014 the group provided and served a delicious hot Italian meal to the ladies at First Light Homeless Shelter in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.

The group continues to host training classes (Notary Basics), and networking events throughout Alabama.

Who We Are:

Founded in 2013, Notaries for Alabama (Notaries4Alabama) is Alabama’s only support group/organization for notaries. The Birmingham Chapter meets periodically and offers opportunities for learning, networking, and community service.  The group's most active endeavor in 2016/2017 has been hosting "Notary Basics:  Training for Alabama's Notaries".   Notary Basics is classroom training that covers Alabama-specific notary requirements, and national best practices  You can find out more about Notary Basics at Meetup.  We've trained more than one hundred notaries throughout the State of Alabama.

Notaries who join our group are as diverse as America. Some of us work at law firms, others in school districts, some are retired and others are self-employed.  We've enjoyed meeting other men and women who share our interest in the notary field.

In 2017, Notaries for Alabama began selling Notary Bonds, and Error and Omissions insurance through the independent insurance agent, Michelle L. Riley.  Members and Non-Members are able to take advance of this offering.

Mission and Vision:

  • To advance the knowledge and education of notaries concerning state requirements and national best practices.
  • Enhance the public’s understanding and recognition of the important role the notary plays in the community.
  • Serve as an advocate concerning issues that directly affect notaries.
  • Foster communication and serve as a bridge between notaries, the Alabama Secretary of State office, and the Probate Judges of the various counties in Alabama.
